Halloween 2013: The Real Deal

We kicked off Halloween morning with bones-pajamas and a biscuit breakfast.  Or as Henry calls it, "special breakfast."  Then we put on our jack-o-latern shirts (thanks to Grandma for both the pj's and shirts) and headed to the mall.  Most kids hate the mall, but our mall has a tiny train.  Henry chose to ride in the red caboose.  John gave the conductor a round-of-applause when the ride ended.

That evening our construction men suited up for the last time.  Neighborhood festivities began with a parade to the clubhouse.  The boys stopped there to take a dinner break before the real work began.  Henry showed John how to trick or treat, although John exercised this new skill for just two houses.  He was far too interested in eating the candy in his bucket.

John and I passed out candy from our porch (and we ate our fair share, too), while Daddy took Henry through the neighborhood.  When he got back to the porch, he dumped his bucket to survey his earnings.  A few days later, Henry noticed John's bucket contained a lot less candy than his own.   He reached in his own bucket, grabbed a fistful, and dropped it in John's bucket.  "Here John, I'll share my treats with you," said my sweet boy.

Halloween 2013: The Pre-Party

The boys dressed as construction workers for Halloween.  Thank you to Nanna, who once again made darling costumes for them.  And thanks to Crayola.  Without my handy, washable, brown marker, the costumes wouldn't have been the same.

Halloween festivities started a week before Halloween.  We attended a MOPS Halloween Parade at a local senior citizens home early in the week.  It was sweet to see how happy the children made the residents. A couple days later, John and I attended a Halloween party for our church playgroup (he was excited to see another boy dressed as Elmo).  Then Henry celebrated with his classmates at their school Halloween party.  They paraded through the hallways, made a craft, and enjoyed some spooky treats.  Once again, Henry's beard gave quite a few laughs.  That night during prayers, Henry said, "Dear God, thank you for my beard for Halloween that made all the people smile."

The Happiest Place on Earth: MARTA!

The boys are obsessed with trains.  So last Sunday we drove to the Sandy Springs MARTA station. Each boy brought his favorite train toy in hand, and Henry insisted on wearing his conductor hat.   Purchasing tickets was just as thrilling as riding the train for the boys.  Henry waved to the conductor through the window of the train, and the conductor waved back, which made Henry jump and smile.  We rode the train to the Buckhead station and then walked to Starbucks for coffee and cake pops.  And then we turned around and rode the train back home.  I'm certain it's the longest we've traveled to go to Starbucks. But they say it's about the journey. And they're right.
