Fall Fair Fun!

We know Fall has arrived when the North Georgia State Fair comes to town! This year was particularly fun because it was the first time that Henry was old enough to enjoy the rides. John was just happy to partake in people watching.

Henry loved the rides, although you might not know that from the pictures. He held a serious look on his face while he was on the ride, but as soon as the ride ended, he was smiling and asking for another ride. I love my funny little man. He did make a friend on the helicopter ride, and it was hilarious to watch them chat and laugh as they spun round and round. The giant slide was a big hit, and the pictures show it. Henry has been asking to ride a horse for a while, and our little cowboy got to do just that.

You can't leave the fair without indulging in something fried, so we got wild and tried deep fried Oreos for the first time. Henry has never had a regular Oreo. To borrow from Jeff Foxworthy, you know you're a redneck when you eat a deep fried Oreo before you eat a regular Oreo. John just snacked on his toes. Maybe next year he can have a little fried fair treat.

He's a Mover and a Shaker!

John is on the move! Slowly sliding and slithering across the floor, Bebe John moves. Henry helped me cheer on John, and then he wanted his own turn at making Mama proud. Love these boys and their love of barnyard animals.

John is 6 months old!

Likes: Sleeping on my belly, slobbering on Sophie the Giraffe, doing the army crawl on the hardwood floors (carpet slows me down), playing peek-a-boo, getting attention from Henry, sitting up on my own, chewing on the tags of toys, making "B" sounds all day long, jumping in the jumperoo, and getting tickled on my thighs and belly.

Dislikes: Being scared by loud noises, sitting in my car seat or stroller for too long (I want to move around now!), and being banned from chewing on Mama's iPhone.

Growth: I weigh 19 lbs., 1 oz., and I am 27 and 3/4 inches tall.  This puts me in the 75th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for height.  My doctor said that I am leaning out a bit now that I'm moving around more.  We're starting solids this week so Mama is hoping that it helps my rolls stick around a bit longer.

The East Cobber Parade

Last weekend we marched in the East Cobber Parade to support our congressman, Tom Price. The boys looked darling, thanks to Grandma and Papou. They even tolerated the multiple hats for a little bit.

This was our first year participating in the East Cobber Parade, and we quickly discovered why it draws such a crowd: candy! A few thousand children line Johnson Ferry Road as parade marchers toss bags upon bags of candy into the crowds. Henry waved to all the sugar-crazed children while John snuck in a cat-nap. The parade ended at a street festival, and Henry and Daddy worked up a sweat on the bouncy houses and slides.

Tour de Michigan 2012: The Longo Lakehouse

After a few days in Troy, we headed to the Longo Lakehouse on Lake LeAnn. We had a photo shoot with John in one of his big brother's hand-me-down's (re-monogrammed, of course). Henry wore the same outfit when he met Great Grandma Fran and Great Papa for the first time as a baby, so it was sweet to see it again.

Henry and John loved being at the lake. Henry dug in the sand, swam, kayaked, chased Charlie around, went down the slide, covered Charlie with stickers, kayaked some more, drove Papa's boat, swam in Aunt Taffy and Uncle Joe's pool, and, perhaps the highlight of our trip, caught his first fish! He was very patient as he watched and waited with Papa for the bobber to move. He was proud of his catch, and happy to throw the fish back in the water so it could go back "to his Mama."

John was perfectly happy just sitting outside, enjoying the breeze off the lake.  He also made sure to give everyone in the family one of his signature big, happy, toothless grins.  John swam in the pool too, and went under for the first time!  I can't say he loved it, but he was a good sport.

Henry worked up an appetite with all the activities. He enjoyed fried cauliflower, Aunt Taffy's homemade ravioli, Mimi's sauce and meatballs, and his first chocolate eclair. My picky eater must be growing!

I requested two activities during our trip: a bonfire and a trip to Freddie's Freeze for ice cream cones. Little did I know Henry had his own opinion of my requests. Poor Papa built a great fire only to have Henry sit in a chair for thirty seconds and proclaim, "All done fiah. Don't like it." Freddie's Freeze, on the other hand, he clearly liked.

We had a wonderful, impromptu trip to the Mitten, and all the fun we had made the traveling totally worth it!
