2 1/2 going on 22

Our big boy aged right before our eyes this past week. Last Saturday, he packed up all his diapers in a bag and passed them down to Bebe John. We stayed in the house for six days (yes, right after being stuck in the house for seven days during the quarantine). I was armed with a book of stickers and a bottle of Resolve as I let Henry run around the house in nothing but his birthday suit. And in less than a week's time, our big boy got the potty thing down pat. Our first outing included bouncy houses, lunch at Chipotle, and a Publix run. Despite the numerous distractions, he aced it. And just today he visited the aquarium (sans diaper bag) for the day with Daddy. I am proud of him, and I can't believe how easy he made this transition for all of us.

Next week, he'll ask me for the car keys.

John is 10 months old!

Likes: Pulling up on anything I can get my hands on, waving and pointing to anyone who smiles at me, laying my head down on Mama's shoulder and hugging her around the neck, eating strawberries, bananas, tilapia, cheese, broccoli, bread, and grown-up oatmeal, crawling on all fours while on carpet and army crawling while on hardwoods (I'm efficient), reading Elmo books, rubbing my ear when I'm sleepy or nursing, playing with doors and drawers, smiling and babbling at any photo of a baby (I'm good friends with the baby on the diaper box), smacking my lips, and tearing up the pantry with Henry.

Dislikes: Being tossed up ever so slightly in the air (early fear of heights?), being scolded for biting (I cry big, ugly tears), and skipping my morning nap if we're on the go.

Growth: I weigh 20 lbs., 7 oz., and I am 29 and 3/4 inches tall.  This puts me in the 45th percentile for weight and the 80th percentile for height.  Quite svelte!

Quarantined

With the exception of one trip to the grocery store, the boys and I have been stuck in the house for five straight days.  We have RSV and roseola to thank for our quarantine. Poor John was so sick last weekend that we ended up in the emergency room due to his low oxygen levels. It was a little scary, but our happy boy never stopped smiling (and he made that sad, little, baby hospital gown look so darn cute!). Thankfully he's on the mend now. And just in time, because he infected his big brother yesterday. Here we go again!

A Very Georgia Christmas

Last weekend we celebrated Christmas with Nanna and Pa at our house. On Friday evening, the boys put on their darling Christmas outfits from Nanna, and we enjoyed a fancy steak dinner for "Christmas Eve" in downtown Roswell.

On our "Christmas morning," Henry could not run fast enough to the tree. He sighted his name on his presents and wasted no time. John, still quite a long time away from being able to recognize his name, found his gifts through his sense of taste. They received trains, cars, a school bus, tractors, a helicopter, and trucks. Pa also built a wonderful train table, complete with Tidmouth Sheds and a train turntable. And it folds up for easy storage, which makes for one happy Mama.

For breakfast, we enjoyed our banana splits, a delicious tradition worth keeping. Henry was in heaven. He likes "brown" ice cream, chocolate chips, cherries, and lots of sprinkles. John had yogurt and oatmeal. A banana split for you next year, sweet boy. And of course, homemade doughnuts. Because you can't have a visit from Nanna without doughnuts.

The next day, Uncle Chris, Aunt Stacie, and George came over to play and have lunch. Nanna and Pa also had presents for the "big boys": marshmallow guns! A valiant battle ensued in our backyard, and all the weaponry was brought out for the occasion (snow scrapers and a plastic bat). I couldn't help but laugh every time I stepped on a mini marshmallow in my backyard this past week.
