Pure Michigan with the Makris Family

Our drive to Michigan was interesting. It involved a carsick toddler, a carsick pregnant Mama, two flash flood warnings, a new carseat purchase, and lunch at the non-dine-in Little Caesar's in Nowhere, Tennessee. It took two days to drive 918 miles to the Makris Log Cabin in Lewiston, Michigan. Unfortunately, after 34 hours there, we left for Troy because Papou needed surgery. Thankfully, his surgery went well and we were able to see him.

The boys played, wrestled, and destroyed Grandma and Papou's house with their cousins. It is a rare treat to have all seven cousins together. We were busy too - the Troy Gymnastics Center, National Coney Island (table for fourteen, please!), the Detroit Science Museum, Ray's Ice Cream (for scoops of Superman), and Booth Park in Birmingham. On our last night together, we had a pizza party at Uncle Chris and Aunt Stacie's house. It wasn't the week in Northern Michigan that we were expecting, but that didn't matter. We were thankful for our time together and for a healthy Papou.

4th of July Fun!

Our neighborhood has a fantastic 4th of July celebration at the pool. Henry did his best Scuba Steve impression with his new flippers. John jumped off the diving board for the first time. And continued to jump again and again to earn cheers from the neighborhood ladies. Peter couldn't hang past bedtime, so he stayed at home with a babysitter. The neighborhood dads competed in a belly-flop contest. Gus won because he conveniently left his bathing suit at home. We fed the boys sugary snacks to keep them up for the big show. Henry came prepared with his ear protection. John came prepared with his two fingers. No one cried over the loud noises. After the show, we picked up Peter and headed north on I-75 to Michigan. The boys quickly fell asleep, but Gus and I watched fireworks along the highway from Georgia to Tennessee.

Goodbye Mullet!

Peter's hair finally started growing in.  In the back especially.  Or maybe in the back only.  I thought I could cut it myself, and I was right.  Two snips later and the rat-tail was gone.  Now I've bought him some time before he needs his first real haircut from Mr. Swift at Tommy's Barber Shop.
