The Great Flood of 2017

On Monday, May 1st, we woke up at 6AM to water covering the entire main floor of our house. A toilet supply line had burst in the middle of the night. Thankfully, it was clean water. Unfortunately, all of our hardwood floors were ruined, and the entire kitchen needed to be ripped out. Our insurance company put us up in a hotel so we could figure out what to do next. Our family of six lived in a 600 square foot hotel room for almost two weeks. The kids were not phased at all. In fact, they thought we were on vacation - there was a breakfast buffet every morning, elevator buttons to push all the time (and fight over), and a pool that we could swim in during naptime (thanks to baby monitors). The boys were still in school, so we packed up the hot glue gun to complete some end of the year projects in our cozy hotel room. And we even had some milestones in the hotel - Henry lost his 2nd front tooth! It certainly was an adventure to remember.

We decided to go ahead and gut the house, as well as put an addition upstairs since we already had to move out of the house to repair and renovate the first floor.  Luckily, our insurance company put us up in a 3 bedroom apartment closer to our home for the next few months. And boy does it feel like a mansion compared to that hotel room!
