Christmas in the Mitten

Henry spent his first Christmas in Michigan. First we spent some time at the Longo home. Henry loved sitting in Mimi's old highchair and standing up with some help from the freezer. He also had a chance to meet his Guilbault family and visit Great Grandma Longo and Great Papa Longo at their home.

While Atlanta was enjoying its first White Christmas since 1882, Detroit was enjoying its annual White Christmas, so Henry had his first taste of snow . . . literally. He was teething, so it must have felt good on those gums. Speaking of teeth, I know what Henry asked Santa for: his two front teeth! Poor baby was a drooling, rosy cheeked, fussy mess!

At just 8 months old Henry enjoyed his first date with the very lovely and talented Miss Annabelle Gorski. Being the proper Southern gentleman that he is, he showed up with chocolates and a chaperone (his Mama!), but Annabelle insisted on playing hard to get and slept the whole time.

On Christmas Eve we introduced Henry to many family traditions. Morning hockey with the Makris men and their friends, mass with the Makris family in the afternoon (shout out to Grandma Makris for holding Henry throughout the entire mass!), and a big Italian meal with the Longo family that evening. At the Longo's, Henry also enjoyed watching us eat Happy Birthday Jesus cake and listening to a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" with his Papa and Great Papa.

On Christmas Morning we opened gifts and enjoyed breakfast at the Longo home. Henry had fun opening his gifts, even though he found the paper and boxes more interesting.

Then it was time for a wardrobe change and Christmas at the Makris home. Henry and his cousin Ella looked pretty darn cute in their matching outfits. They also enjoyed fighting over sharing the Brown Bear book. Henry received some very nice things from Grandma, Papou, and his Aunts and Uncles, and yet he still managed to find an empty paper towel roll more entertaining than his 28 new toys.

The day after Christmas we enjoyed a Makris family gathering at the home of Gus' Aunt Margaret and Uncle Skip on Lake St. Clair. It was so nice to reconnect with Gus' extended family and introduce Henry to them.
